Jonah’s Mis-adventure
The running of the covies
Jonahs Favorite days of all
But today it was late in coming
But finally he heard the call
Out they came and out they went
All as usually occurred
Both somehow Jonah felt different
Spunky! And so he loudly purred
He ran right out into the yard
Feeling not his fifteen years
The late fall sun inspiring
Overcoming all fears
I have lived my whole life here
And wonder what is beyond it
I never really wondered before
But this seems a day to ‘git’
So when no one was watching
He snuck himself into a car
Those things that come and go
He had no idea how far
Well it wasn’t long before it moved
And his terror kept him hid
What the heck was I thinking
I am no fool young kid
But, alas, it was too late
The car was moving fast
Till finally it came to a stop
And he could get out at last
He sniffed the air, both north and south
He sniffed both east and west by jove
But no scent of his home was found
No Jacci, no Connie, no Cove
I am a stupid fool, thought he
What am I to do now
I do not text like our Savaun
I never did learn how
So here I am, lost, Lost, LOST
And no one to here to find me
I can’t smell them - they can’t smell me
But - everyone knows Mama Jacci
Here’s a house, that smells of cats
They will know what to do
Meow, meow, meow, please answer
I must be louder - HELLO
Oh good they heard - they came
But they don’t seem to know who I am
They seem to think I’m just a stray
They don’t even mention the cam
They didn’t even feed me
Just left me out in the cold
Don’t they know I am Jonah
Don’t they know I am old
Well its getting dark out now
So I will just hunker down
Tomorrow I will find someone
Who will help to make me found
And all the next day he wandered
But no friendly face he met
So he returned back to their porch
For at least they knew how to pet
Another night of cold and hunger
Another night of regret and fear
But when they offered a carrier
He thought Mama Jacci must be near
They carried him off to a shelter
But not the shelter he hoped
Here kitties were caged up
In his he sat and he moped
I only have myself to blame
Old, old fool that I am
How could I be so foolish
To go out like this on the lam
As just as hope was fading
Just as he thought to give in
He heard her loving voice
Or was it just hope in him
But no the cage was opened
And there his Mama weary
He leapt into her loving arms
Both of them happy and teary
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, he purred to her
I’m so glad we found you she said
I’ll never ever do it again
Never ever, I promise, he said
